Deon Thompson Wins MVP

Former Tar Heel  Deon Thompson was named Most Valuable Player in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague tournament.  Thompson signed a two year contract last year to play in Slovenia for the Union Olimpija.  On Sunday,  Thompson led his team to a championship with a 68-63 win over Krka.  In the quarterfinals Thompson had a double-double with fifteen points and 10 rebounds, in the semifinals he had fourteen points, and in the finals he had eleven points and 9 rebounds.  Thompson credited his teammates with believing in him and getting him the ball.  He was honored by the MVP award but was happier that his team won the championship.
Prior to playing in the Euroleague Thompson was playing in Greece.  Thompson is no stranger to either honor as he was a member of the 2009 championship team that beat Michigan State in the finals and was named team MVP in 2010.  He ranks second in Carolina's history for most games played with 152.

  1. That's the same team that former WVU star Joe Alexander played for.
